A Marie Antoinette-Inspired Bridal Look

 

A fashion queen from her head to her toes, Marie Antoinette was all about fabulous style. Back then, huge skirts with panniers (also known as side hoops) were de rigueur.  On her wedding day (and beyond) she wore some of the most outsized, eye-catching gowns around!

When shopping for a wedding dress, you can go a few different ways. Of course, a full, traditional ballgown is a fit, but that’s not your only option. Marie was also known for her fitted, boned, and bosom-bearing corsets, and later she wore breezy chemises whose flowing movement both obscured and revealed her body. Across the board, fine fabric, lots of gorgeous detail, and beautiful design were all hallmarks of this queen’s style.

Accessorize with flair

Marie Antoinette was all about accessories, and she was the Queen of France, so you know her jewelry box was overflowing with fabulousness!  To make a really royal statement, go for a large, sparkling wedding crown. Alternately, a bold, crystal-encrusted bridal hair vine or halo headpiece like those featured here convey wedding tiara energy with a modern twist. Your bridal veils should be as epic as Marie, so for extra drama, go for a cathedral-length veil with a blusher for extra drama. To finish the look, pair your bridal headpiece with long, statement earrings and a delicate necklace.
