An Elegant Garden Wedding At The Mount

With the right style and decor, you can create a luxurious and elegant wedding outdoors. But what if you don't want a tent in which to suspend a chandelier? While the stars above or twinkle lights definitely set a romantic scene, you may picture something with a little more oomph. Plus, without a tent, how do you evoke the feeling of intimacy in all that space?

Enter this classic wedding styled shoot at The Mount! It has glamour and the feeling of an exclusive, coat-and-tails dinner party that we crave.

The Wedding Venue

The Mount was iconic author Edith Wharton's home (she was the first woman awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction!). When designing the gardens, "She envisioned her gardens as an elegant series of outdoor rooms, in harmony with the house and the surrounding natural landscape."

That notion of the gardens as elegant rooms is a lovely wedding theme! It inspired the vendors behind this shoot, and we hope it will get ideas blooming for planning brides, too.

Luxury wedding planning takeaway: Seek out an historic venue whose gardens feel like the perfect backdrop for your elegant outdoor wedding. If that's not available, explore local botanical gardens and parks. They're often designed and maintained by people who have a passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces.

Elegant + Romantic Bridal Style

A bridal look that both complements and further elevates the reception space's elegance helps to pull your glamorous wedding style into focus. For this shoot, the team featured two stunning wedding dresses by Yumi Katsura hand-picked by the Designer Loft.

First, our bride strikes a pose in a grand and gorgeous ball gown fit for a queen, which we paired with one of our dazzling gold, crystal, and pearl bridal crowns and a pair of bold chandelier earrings. Next, she slips into a wedding dress that captures the breezy romance of a garden wedding, while maintaining a distinct air of sophistication.

Edith Wharton was born in 1862, and one of her famous works is The Age of Innocence, which took place in 1870's New York society. To complement the wedding dress, the energy of the wedding theme, and the era of Edith's famous novel, we chose a tiered, pearl-and-crystal headband. While modern, it evokes a touch of vintage romance and complements our bride's updo! As a perfect finishing touch, we selected CZ drop earrings that any heiress would adore.

Throughout it all, her groom is dressed in an always-classy white tuxedo jacket, black bow tie, and black pants.

Wedding style takeaways: When it comes to hair and makeup, keep things soft and romantic but also white glove. A loose updo or soft curls, a smoky eye, and a pop of bold color on your lips will keep things modern.

Choosing a wedding dress, jewelry, and bridal hair accessories shouldn't just be about the venue and wedding theme—it's important to feel like yourself! So, whether it's ball gowns or body con, stick with what makes your heart sing. However, seek out luxurious details and fabrics that evoke a garden, such as lace, tulle, and textiles like damask that sometimes have a subtle floral print. Also, a gorgeous cathedral veil is timeless and conveys romance!

Garden Wedding Decor

For an elegant wedding reception that's outdoors, think of Edith Wharton's vision—she wanted to create a series outdoor rooms. The vendor team behind this shoot used floral installations and candlelight, and they let the garden's color to inform its color themes. High and low wedding centerpieces extend the length of family-style seating, while soft lighting creates intimacy and table runners and linens add to the feeling of luxury.

Elegant outdoor wedding planning takeaways: Welcome guests with a wedding reception that inspires an intimate feeling. By its very nature, an an outdoor wedding feels as though there's no limit to the space. So, work with flower arrangements, color scheme, lighting, and table settings to develop the sense of an outdoor room in which wedding guests can join you in celebrating your big day!
